How Many Times
(Matthew 18: 21-35)
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”]
Jesus explains you forgive if the offense cannot be measured and even when the offense is repeated multiple times. He goes on to explain why it’s important for us to forgive.
You harm yourself when you hold unforgiveness in your heart. Forgiveness does not make right the wrong that was done to you. Forgiveness makes you live the life you have, free from the captivity of injustice. We harm ourselves when we harbor unforgiveness in our hearts.
Forgiveness is not a sudden action. It takes time and practice. The person you forgive does not need to know your intent. Make the decision to act on your forgiveness muscle to hold onto your forgiveness spirit.
Forgiveness cushions the effect of injustice. It does not mean you allow the injustice to continue. Unforgiveness lights the fire under injustice. Forgiveness quenches the fire.
Relationships are not easy. Forgiveness mends broken relationships.
Decide to forgive and then do it. Forgiveness is a process that needs to be sustained with willingness and steadfastness. Forgiveness is healing. Forgiveness is submission to a better more peaceful life. Forgiveness is freedom from the bondage of unforgiveness.
